Pakistani security forces launched the operation after receiving credible intelligence about extremist activity, including a suicide bomber. According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), troops intercepted a vehicle-borne attacker before he could strike civilians, preventing a potential disaster.

Militants fired upon the forces, leading to a fierce encounter. Several attackers were eliminated, but the suicide bomber eventually rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a security convoy.
