ISLAMABAD: The business community has reacted strongly to the government’s imposition of a tax of Rs 200 per kilogram on the import of used clothes this year.

According to traders, this tax has increased the prices of warm clothes in Landa Bazaar by Rs 500 to Rs 1,500, which will severely affect the white-clad and poor class.

Traders said that this year, used warm clothes are already expensive, but they are trying to keep prices as low as possible so that the problems of the people do not increase.

They said that due to heavy duties, they are now having to invest more in imported goods, and goods coming at the container level have become so expensive that they are becoming out of reach of the common buyer.

Traders have appealed to the government to reduce the tax imposed on used clothes so that the poor and middle class people can buy cheap clothes in winter.
