ISLAMABAD: The city is witnessing a continuous increase in the prices of chicken and eggs, which has further increased the problems of the common citizen. These basic food items, considered cheap proteins, are now also getting out of reach of the middle class.
Despite the government fixing the prices, food items are being sold at high prices in the open market. This situation has also raised questions on administrative control and government enforcement.
According to the released data, the official price of broiler chicken meat is fixed at Rs 519 per kg, however, it is being sold in different areas between Rs 540 and Rs 550 per kg.
Similarly, the official price of farm eggs is Rs 245 per dozen, but they are available in the market at Rs 255 or even more.
Citizens say that chicken and eggs are an essential part of the daily diet, but rising inflation has put even these basic items out of reach of the common man. Household budgets are being affected and the low-income group in particular is facing severe difficulties.
The public has demanded that the government ensure strict implementation of official rates and take effective action against elements involved in illegal profiteering so that prices can be controlled.
