Wheat Policy 2026 notified, procurement fixed at Rs 3,500 per maund

ISLAMABAD: The formal notification of Wheat Policy 2026 has been issued, according to which strategic wheat reserves will be purchased through stakeholders.

The notification states that this year, new wheat procurement has been set at Rs 3500 per maund, while in 2025, wheat was kept at the open market price. The Punjab government will purchase wheat reserves up to 2.5 million metric tons.

The strategic wheat reserves will be managed through purchasing banks, and the Punjab government will bear 70 percent of the financing cost.

A tripartite agreement will be signed between DG Food, Agricutor and the relevant bank, and government warehouses will be provided to selected stakeholders free of charge.

The farmer will get 100 percent compensation of Rs 3500 per maund of wheat on the spot.
