Online classes announced for schools in Lahore due to dense smog

LAHORE: Authorities in the Punjab capital, Lahore have directed all schools providing education to special children to conduct online classes amid the worsening smog situation in the city.

As per the details, Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Director General Imran Sheikh has banned special children from going to school due to pollution.

Imran Sheikh said that the closure of schools was implemented for the health of children suffering from respiratory problems, allergies and heart diseases. He added that under the green lockdown, stakeholders are following SOPs (standard operating procedures).

The IQ Air Ranking for Cities shows that Lahore is the second most polluted city in the world with an Air Quality Index of 215, very unhealthy.

Green Lockdown enforced in Lahore

The Lahore administration imposed a ‘green lockdown’ in many parts of the city to control the level of toxic smog.

Despite several measures, smog levels remain above 500, and in a decisive move to deal with rising air pollution, Lahore authorities have announced a lockdown in several areas.

Locations include Abbott Road (from Shimla Hill to Gulistan Cinema), Empress Road (from Shimla Hill to Railway Headquarters), Queen Mary Road (Durand Road to Allama Iqbal Road) besides Davies Road, Egerton Road and Kashmir Road. .
