LAHORE: According to the Punjab Education Department, the academic plan approved for 2026 has finalized the annual examination schedule in schools for classes 1 to 7.

The department confirmed that these grades’ exams would occur from March 10 to March 22, and the results would be released on March 31.

The revised admission policy, new school calendar, and revision of the syllabus for the coming year were also approved by the officials. Updated textbooks, including replacements for 29 classes, six matric to, would go to print in December.

The new academic year is slated to start from April 1, 2026, with free textbooks scheduled to be distributed in government schools from April 5.

Education officials warned that Punjab still faces severe learning challenges. More than 28 million children remained out of school in the 2025 session, with a number likely to cross 30 million next year.

The department said declining enrollment, particularly for girls, remains a growing concern as many underage children leave school to work in restaurants, workshops, and other informal sectors.
