Punjab CM Maryam launches second phase of Honhaar Scholarship Programme

LAHORE: In a recent educational development, the Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz scholarship program has entered the second phase. These scholarships cover the educational expenses for 30,000 students annually for four years from all around Punjab.

These scholarships are part of the Honhaar program, which proves that talented students have an opportunity to study at good institutions irrespective of their financial background.

According to the chief minister, students from 65 universities, 12 medical and dental colleges, and 359 colleges in Punjab will be eligible for the CM Honhaar Scholarships, allowing them to pursue higher education from the best institutions without worrying about their financial situation.

The scholarship program is available to children aged below 22 years who have a domicile of Punjab whose parental monthly income is less than Rs300,000.

It has been reiterated by the chief minister that fundamental principles of transparency shall be applied in the program, where all applications are submitted and processed through an online portal.

The scrutiny shall be performed by a provincial level committee and steering committee under the chairmanship of Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, in order to ensure that the deserving scholarship winners obtain it.

This program shall cater to cover 100% educational expenses of the selected candidates and students from 68 subjects and disciplines would be able to join.

The first ceremony of the Honhaar Scholarship Programme was held on the grounds of the University of Punjab, where 2,473 scholarships were awarded, whereas, 2,570 government and private sector scholarships will be handed out at the ceremony at FAST University Islamabad.

Noteworthy mention is made of 1,886 number of scholarships awarded through this program to the students of UET Lahore; 1660 have been granted to students of public sector universities and 637 to students of private sector universities.

This is a giant leap towards advocacy for education advancement and empowerment of Punjab’s youth and will be contributing towards improving education in Punjab.
