LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has proposed major changes in the academic calendar to improve the quality of education and complete the curriculum on time.

The main objective of these proposals is to increase the number of teaching days during the academic year to at least 180 to 190 days so that students do not suffer academic losses.

Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said that currently, due to the abundance of holidays in the academic year, the actual teaching time is very little.

To solve this problem, a proposal to reduce the summer holidays by 15 to 20 days and the winter holidays by 5 to 6 days is under consideration.

In addition, opening schools every other week (Alternate Saturday) is also being considered to organize the academic session.

An important development is that separate academic calendars will be prepared for Matric and O/A level students so that studies can be completed according to the schedule of international examinations.

It should be remembered that in March 2026, there was a prolonged closure of schools due to the situation in the Middle East and the fuel crisis, after which the government is now taking these steps to speed up the teaching process.
