LAHORE: During the cold weather spell that extended the winter vacations, Punjab’s Education Minister, Rana Sikandar Hayat, shared an update on when the educational institutes could reopen in the province.
At an event in Gujranwala, a journalist asked if the winter holidays may be extended. The minister replied that the holidays were extended by a week for the security and safety of students and faculty.
But he also made it clear that all public and private schools will reopen on January 19, 2026.
He also added that there shall not be any extension of the winter holidays since they started from December 20, 2025.
However, students had already availed of 27 of the 30 total days allocated, with only three left to wrap up as planned.
This decision follows concerns from students and parents regarding whether school activities will resume, given the severe cold weather that has been experienced.
The education minister, however, assured that schools would operate normally on January 19.
