Pakistan’s first official AI Avatar ‘Laila’ launched

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan finally publicized its first official AI avatar, ‘Laila’, an important milestone in the digital transformation of the country.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication introduced the avatar at a lavish government event where great policymakers and technology leaders were present.

The launch is indicative of the government’s determination to make artificial intelligence a part of the functioning of the state, in the provision of public services, and in the field of innovation.

Furthermore, the officials declare that the initiative is a manifestation of the ambition of Pakistan to create a powerful AI-driven economy. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, remarked that the Pakistan AI avatar was a more than symbolic move.

It was an indication of the government’s determination to bring sophisticated technology into the daily life of the people. She went on to say that AI will be a great help in education, citizen services, and digital inclusion. The minister stated that the launch was in line with the national AI roadmap.

According to this strategy, Pakistan intends to educate one million people in AI skills by 2030. Besides that, the government intends to back 1,000 AI startups and provide help to 400 university-led AI projects annually. In addition, the authorities will create 50 sector-specific AI models to cater to local requirements.

The AI avatar can engage in conversation with users and also plays a supporting role in educational modules. It further provides language services to help close the gap between those who have access to digital information and those who do not.

At the same time, the government is planning to use AI avatars on public digital platforms to make them more user-friendly and to respond to inquiries faster.
