SC to hear Plea against General Elections on February 19

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Supreme Court is scheduled to hear an appeal opposing the general elections scheduled for February 8.
On February 19, Pakistan’s Chief Justice Qazi Faez Esa will preside over a three-person bench to hear the plea.

The other two judges on the court are Justice Masurrat Hilali and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar. Ali Khan, a citizen, had petitioned the Supreme Court a few days prior to protesting the general elections.

He included the Pakistani Election Commission and the federal government as responders. In addition, the petitioner requested that the court deem the elections that were held on February 8 to be invalid and to halt the government’s formation in response to those results.

The motion asked the supreme court to order new elections within 30 days, overseen by the judiciary. In addition, it requested that the court launch investigations into election tampering and fraud and impose penalties on individuals involved.
