KARACHI: In a major blow ahead of the game against India, opener Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out of the remainder of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a serious injury.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that Fakhar Zaman was not accompanying the squad to Dubai for the next match.

“Fakhar Zaman’s injury is of a serious nature. He will not be able to play the remainder of the tournament,” the PCB said in a statement on Thursday.

The left-handed batter sustained a muscular sprain during the opening match against New Zealand at Karachi’s National Stadium.

The incident occurred when Zaman awkwardly fell while fielding in the first over of the match, leading to his immediate withdrawal from the match.

Pakistan’s next match will be a high-stakes clash against India on Sunday in Dubai after India refused to travel to Pakistan to play their matches.
