Iranian President lauds Pakistan’s peace efforts during key meetings

ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Dr. Masoud Peshkeskian met President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately.

According to a statement issued by the Presidential Palace, bilateral relations, especially matters related to regional peace, were discussed in the meeting with the President.

According to the statement, matters related to Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations, regional ties, and economic cooperation were discussed in the meeting, and the commitment to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations and regional peace was reiterated.

President Zardari welcomed President Peshkeskian on his first visit to Pakistan after the recent conflict. The President said that this visit is a manifestation of the determination of both countries to stand together in joy and sorrow. Support for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity was also reiterated.

President Asif Zardari congratulated President Peshkian on the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and said that he hoped that the technical-level talks would lead to the establishment of permanent peace.

President Asif Ali Zardari clarified that Pakistan has always opposed unilateral measures and supported negotiations for a lasting solution to regional and global challenges.

President Asif Zardari emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to preserving the unity of the Muslim Ummah and the importance of strong brotherly relations with the Gulf countries.

According to the Presidency statement, President Zardari once again expressed condolences on the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The President said that Pakistan will attend the funeral prayers of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to the Presidency, President Peshkian thanked Pakistan for its positive and constructive efforts to promote peace and negotiations. President Peshkian appreciated Pakistan’s support in the recent difficult circumstances.

Iranian President Masoud Peshkeshian said that Iran attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan and is eager to further expand cooperation in political, economic, security, and regional affairs. President Zardari expressed his best wishes to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei.
