ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly of Pakistan has adopted a resolution condemning the ongoing Israeli state atrocities in Gaza and the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar presented the resolution in the house, saying that the document had been prepared with all parties’ consensus.

The resolution stated that Haniyeh’s killing in Tehran has “added to the angst and grief, and such incidents are seen as deliberate conspiracies to sabotage efforts to stop” the ongoing Gaza conflict and to establish peace in the region.

“Atrocities by Israel on Palestinians have escalated, causing immense suffering and loss of over 40,000 innocent lives so far, including women and children,” the resolution said.

The resolution highlighted that “all parliamentary parties of the National Assembly expressed their unified grief and anger over the ongoing Israeli oppression and brutality against the people of Palestine for the past nine months”.

Speaking in the National Assembly after the resolution, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif demanded that Israel should be held accountable for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

He said the entire Pakistani nation and Muslim Ummah are aggrieved over the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh.

Martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh is a blow to peace efforts, he said, adding that, Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations including extrajudicial and extraterritorial killings.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to make the platform of the OIC more effective in addressing the plight of the Palestinian people.

Leader of the opposition Barrister Gohar said that they stand with the government of Pakistan on the issue of the assassination of Ismail Hania.

“We Stand as one Nation in this regard,” said Barrister Gohar and added that the killing of Ismail Hania is the biggest tragedy.

He said Pakistan has always been expressing solidarity with the Palestinians and Kashmiris and will continue supporting their struggle for freedom.
