ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is celebrating its 85th Pakistan Day today with a renewed pledge to transform the country into a valid Islamic and welfare state, aligning with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
This day commemorates the Lahore Resolution, passed on March 23, 1940, which called for an independent federation comprising provinces with a Muslim majority.
The resolution was adopted by the Indian Muslim League, led by Quaid-i-Azam M.A. Jinnah, at the Minar-e-Pakistan Lahore.
Additionally, Pakistan Day marks the adoption of the country’s first Constitution on March 23, 1956, making Pakistan the world’s first Islamic Republic.
The celebrations began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and a 21-gun salute in provincial capitals. After Fajr prayers, special prayers were offered in mosques for the country’s progress and prosperity.
Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also attended the ceremony, adding to the occasion’s significance.
The parade kicked off with a salute to the Chiefs of the Armed Forces, including Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, General Syed Asim Munir, and General Sahir Shamshad Mirza. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Defense Minister Khawaja Asif also received a salute from the Pakistan Army contingent upon their arrival.
President Zardari made a traditional entrance, arriving in a carriage announced by a trumpet blast. He shook hands with the reception committee members, while the prime minister, defense minister, and chiefs of the armed forces looked on from the stage.
The ceremony’s highlight was a thrilling flypast by the Pakistan Air Force’s Shaheens, followed by a stunning aerial display by the Sher Dil Formation, and flypasts of F-16, JF-17 Thunder, J-10C, and Mirage aircraft.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on Pakistan Day.
President Zardari said that the sacrifices of the armed forces in the defense of the motherland are unforgettable, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in his message that the country can be put on the path of economic stability and development through national unity.
