LAHORE: Pir Zaheerul Hasan Shah, the naib emir of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), got arrested from Okara for allegedly threatening the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, sources said.
Earlier, the FIR was registered at Qila Gujar Singh police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act, including charges of threatening the chief justice, obstructing government functions, inciting religious hatred, and promoting violence. The report accused Shah of spreading hate against the judiciary during a recent protest outside the press club.
The case also involves around 1,500 TLP workers, booked for their role in spreading hatred against the Supreme Court. The complaint, filed by SHO Hammad Hussain, highlights Shah’s inflammatory comments made during the demonstration.
In response, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif criticized the targeting of the chief justice, asserting that the state will not tolerate death threats or religiously motivated fatwas. Speaking at a press conference with Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Asif condemned the baseless propaganda against Justice Isa and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and justice.
Ahsan Iqbal added that no group has the authority to issue murder fatwas, emphasizing the judiciary’s crucial role in the state and condemning any rebellion against the Constitution.
