SIALKOT: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz visited the flood-affected areas on Thursday.
The Prime Minister and the Punjab Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas, while the Chairman of NDMA briefed them on the overall flood situation.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was briefed on the flood in the rivers of Punjab and the rescue operation in the submerged areas, after which the Prime Minister issued instructions to prevent the flood situation.
According to officials, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will be given a detailed briefing on the flood situation in Narowal.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif says that the challenge of climate change has to be tackled in the coming years, construction of new water reservoirs is the need of the hour.
Addressing the media in Narowal, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the rains have caused a lot of loss of life and property in Gilgit-Baltistan and KP, while severe flooding is passing through the plains of Punjab. We all regret the loss of human lives due to the floods.
He said that the Punjab government, rescue teams, police, and the irrigation department are working day and night, for which we are grateful to them.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that such a disaster occurred in 2022. The main target of the destruction in 2022 was Sindh and Balochistan. Crops ready for cultivation on millions of acres were destroyed.
He said that Pakistan is among the countries that are most affected by climate change. The challenge of climate change must be addressed in the coming years.
The country’s water storage capacity will have to be increased. We have the capacity to build many new small dams.
