ISLAMABAD: In a major policy change, Pakistan has decided to withdraw the power to set drug prices from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).
The Ministry of Health has announced the creation of a new body dedicated to drug pricing, with a special focus on life-saving drugs.
According to the officials of the health department, the decision to transfer the pricing powers from DRAP has been taken on the orders of the Prime Minister.
A proposal is currently being drafted by a committee headed by the Law Minister. Currently, the DRAP is only responsible for determining the prices of life-saving drugs, with the new board set to expand that role.
