Punjab CM Maryam launches Pakistan’s first virtual blood bank

LAHORE: Under the orders of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, Pakistan‘s first Virtual Blood Bank Centre has been opened to provide instant availability of blood in emergencies.

A person in need of blood can dial Emergency Helpline 15 and press button 4 to get directly connected with the Virtual Blood Bank Centre, where a Safe City Officer records vital information like the patient‘s location and the blood group required.

The system then locates registered blood donors near the patient and facilitates direct contact by a conference call, making for a quick blood donation.

The Virtual Blood Bank Centre, accessible through Punjab Police Helpline 15, is a remarkable initiative that provides critical support to patients in need of blood donations.

This service boasts several key features, including instant matching of blood donors with recipients based on location and blood group, ensuring timely and compatible blood transfusions.

Police officers are directly involved in the blood donation process, adding credibility and efficiency. The Virtual Blood Bank is available 24/7, serving patients across Punjab and providing support whenever needed.

With over 25,000 registered blood donors, including 15,000 from the general public and 10,000 police personnel, the service has a vast pool of potential donors.

The donor registration process is fast and simple, allowing individuals to easily sign up and contribute to saving lives. On average, the service receives 2,500 calls daily, serving around 250 urgent cases. To date, the Virtual Blood Bank has served over 14,000 patients, making a significant impact on the healthcare system.
