Australia defeats Pakistan by 79 runs in the Melbourne Test

MELBOURNE: Australia secured a convincing victory by 79 runs in a thrilling turn of events during the Melbourne Test. Australia set a difficult goal for Pakistan during the match at the MCG stadium, which culminated in an exciting finish on the fourth day.

At the conclusion of the third day, Australia had amassed a commanding lead of 241 runs against Pakistan, having started the second innings with a total score of 187 runs for the loss of six wickets. With a brilliant 96 runs, Mitchell Marsh led the Australian effort, and Alex Carey showed off his batting skill with a half-century, scoring 53 runs with eight boundaries.

Notable contributions to the Australian batting lineup came from Nathan Lyon (11), Mitchell Starc (9), Pat Cummins (16), and Steven Smith (50). But Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner, who scored four and six runs respectively, were forced out early.

The second innings began with early blows for Pakistan as they started to chase the target when Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafiq were removed for 4 and 12 runs, respectively. Resilient, Shaun Masood scored a respectable sixty runs before giving up to Cummins.

Pakistan’s innings suffered a major blow when Babar Azam left at 41 runs, which paved the way for Saud Shakeel to be dismissed at 24 runs. When Cummins caught Muhammad Rizwan out at 35 runs, the sixth wicket fell.

Hasan Ali and Agha Salman (50) together for Pakistan’s seventh wicket partnership demonstrated tenacity without adding more runs. But, Shaheen Afridi claimed the eighth wicket, trapped by Labuschagne off Cummins, bringing Pakistan’s total to 237 runs at a cost of seven wickets.

Cricket fans were kept on the edge of their seats the entire intense match as Australia emerged victorious in the Melbourne Test by a commanding 79 runs thanks to their all-around performance.
