RAWALPINDI: Imran Khan, the founder of the PTI, and his wife Bushra Bibi were found guilty on Thursday by an accountability court in the January 4 Toshakhana (gift repository) reference.

Judge Muhammad Bashir of the Accountability Court heard the Toshakhana reference on the grounds of Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where the deposed premier was being held at the time.

NAB Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi, the deputy prosecutor general, and his group showed up in court. Copies of the Toshakhana reference and other required documentation were given to the accused.

The hearing to indict the couple was postponed until January 4. Presents from heads of state, foreign diplomats, and state officials are kept in storage by the Toshakhana, a state department.

The Pakistani Constitution states that if the recipient of the gift wishes to keep it for themselves, they must report it to the cabinet division and pay the appropriate fee.

On December 19, NAB reopened its case against Imran and his spouse in the accountability court, alleging that they kept 58 gifts from various heads of state and foreign dignitaries that they had received during the PTI founding chairman’s term as prime minister, against an undervalued sum exceeding Rs142 million.

Additionally, the court postponed until December 30 the hearing on the bail requests in the £190 million settlement and the Toshakhana references. The NAB is currently in the process of presenting its case regarding Imran’s bail requests.
