ISLAMABAD: Fawad Chaudhry, the former leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, declared he would abstain from elections because he did not want to cause his employees any more hardships.

Chaudhry stated in a letter penned on Monday from prison that there was no use in running for office if the outcome has “already been decided.”

“Our nomination papers were rejected without justification, my brother’s papers were approved, but he was made my co-accused in a corruption case by National Accountability Bureau (NAB)” declared the former federal minister.

The former federal minister also stated in the letter that the Election Commission has done a terrible job of carrying out its mandate, and in light of this, my organization has decided to completely boycott the polls.

In addition, he stated that while he was willing to face any risks, he did not want to cause any hardship for his followers.

In addition, Fawad Chaudhry described his attempt to run for office while incarcerated, claiming that despite Jhelum’s lack of a housing society, his nomination papers had been turned down due to an unreported conspiracy.

He said that because an Easy Paisa account was not declared, the documents were eventually rejected.

He added that after his nomination papers were approved, his brother was detained and subsequently involved in a NAB case.

Any government that emerged from such elections, according to Chaudhry, would have no moral or legal legitimacy at all.
