According to an annual World Happiness Report sponsored by the UN, Finland has been the happiest nation on earth for seven years running.

Pakistan was ranked 108th. According to the survey, Pakistan’s youth and young adults are the happiest demographic, while the country’s elderly population is the least pleased. Pakistan surpassed India, with Modi-led India placing 126th on the happiness index—the same as it did the previous year. Afghanistan continued to rank lowest out of the 143 nations examined.

The Nordic nations continued to rank among the ten happiest, with Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden lagging behind Finland.

The United States and Germany, which came in 23rd and 24th place, respectively, were not among the top 20 happiest countries for the first time since the report’s publication more than ten years ago.

Kuwait and Costa Rica, meanwhile, stormed into the top 20 at positions 12 and 13.

“The Netherlands and Australia are the only two nations in the top 10 with populations of more than 15 million. Only the UK and Canada have populations of more than 30 million out of the top 20.”

How is happiness ranked?

The happiness ranking is based on individuals’ self-assessed evaluations of life satisfaction, as well as GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity and corruption.
