Karachi Rain forecast; Govt. declares Half-day for offices on Friday

KARACHI: The provincial capital of Sindh will remain closed on Friday for a half-day, and residents are being asked to stay indoors as much as possible given the likelihood of rain.

In order to prevent any unwelcome incidents, the provincial authorities have implemented a rain emergency in the area and taken strict measures. On Friday, or tomorrow, the nation’s slowest city, Karachi, will reopen for a half-day due to the expected heavy downpour.

The mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, provided an update on social media, advising people not to travel unnecessary during the weekend and citing the half-day measure as a precaution. As a matter of extreme prudence, the PPP leader stated that preparations have been taken.

From February 29 to March 2, the Met Office forecasted rain, windstorms, and the potential for sporadic hailstorms in Sindh. Murad Ali Shah, the recently elected chief minister of Sindh, also requested a meeting to discuss early rain preparations.

The government of the Southeast has declared a rain emergency and ordered all local government offices, hospitals, and administrations to remain vigilant. CM Shah was also briefed by PDMA officials regarding the expected rainfall. Up to 15 millimeters of rain are predicted for Karachi’s port city, and flooding is also predicted in major thoroughfares.
