List of candidates who submitted nomination papers for senate elections

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is set to hold the Senate elections on April 2 as the deadline for submitting nomination papers for the Senate elections has ended.

The electoral watchdog will end the scrutinizing of the nomination papers by March 19. ECP will issue the final list of candidates on March 26.

Out of 52 vacant seats in the upper house of parliament, elections will be contested on 48 seats because of the 25th constitutional amendment, which removed four reserved seats for the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Punjab

At least 28 candidates have filed nomination papers for 12 seats from Punjab. This includes 16 candidates for seven general seats, four for two technocrat positions, and five for two women’s seats. Three candidates have filed papers for one minority seat.

Candidates for general seats included Mohsin Naqvi, Ejaz Hussain Minhas, Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari, Ahad Cheema, Pervaiz Rasheed, Nasir Mehmood, Hamid Khan, Raja Nasir Abbas, Irfan Ahmad Khan, Raja Habibur Rehman, Musadaq Masood Malik, Waleed Iqbal, Dr Shahzad Waseem, and Talal Chaudhry.

Mustafa Ramday, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Musaddaq Masood Malik, and Muhammad Aurangzaib have also submitted nomination papers for technocrat positions.

For women’s seats, Faiza Ahmad, Anoshay Rehman, Bushra Anjum Butt, and Sanam Javed, submitted their nomination papers.

Asif Aashiq, Tahir Khalil Sandhu, and Tariq Javed submitted their nomination papers for one minority seat.

Balochistan

36 candidates have submitted papers for 11 Senate seats, including former Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar from Balochistan.

Aimal Wali Khan, Amanullah Kanrani, former Senators Kohida Babar and Naseebullah Bazai, and former Federal Minister Maulana Abdul Wasi also submitted their nomination papers for senate polling.

Jan Buledi, Genghis Jamali, Member of Balochistan Assembly Rahila Durrani, Maulana Abdul Haq Hashmi, and Saeedul Hasan Mandukhel have also submitted their nomination papers for the Senate.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 13 candidates have submitted their papers. Among them are Qazi Anwar Advocate for the technocrat seat, Mehwish Ali Khan for the women’s seat, and several others for general and technocrat positions.

Waqar Ahmed Qazi, Khalid Masood, and Ayesha Bano filed for Senate elections alongside Azam Khan Swati and Syed Irshad Hussain.

Irfan Saleem, Talha Mehmood, Dilawar Khan, Faisal Javed, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, and Azhar Qazi Mashwani have also filed applications for general seats. Dr. Hammad Mehmood Cheema, Khalid Masood, Fazal Hanan, Dilawar Khan, and Syed Irshad Hussain filed nomination papers.
