Maryam Nawaz launches E-Bike scheme for students

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has introduced the Electric Bike (e-scooters) Scheme 2026 for the students of the province, under which one lakh students will be provided with eco-friendly travel facilities.

The government says that the aim of this project is to provide safe, easy and low-cost travel facilities to the youth to educational institutions and to promote the use of eco-friendly transport.

Under this scheme, electric bikes will be provided free of cost to the female students, while the same bikes will be given to the male students on interest-free and easy installments so that maximum number of youth can benefit from this facility. The government hopes that this initiative will significantly reduce the travel problems of the students and help maintain continuity in educational activities.

Who can apply?

According to government guidelines, the applicant must be at least 18 years of age, be studying in a degree college or university approved by the Higher Education Commission. In addition, the candidate must have a permanent domicile in Punjab.

Furthermore, the applicant must have a motorcycle driving license or learner permit, and not be the owner of a registered motor vehicle. The government has clarified that only one person from the same family will be able to benefit from this scheme, even if more than one sibling meets the eligibility criteria.

How to apply?

Applications for the electric bike scheme will be submitted online only through the designated portal of the Punjab government. Candidates will first register or log in using their identity information, then complete the application form and upload all the required documents.

After receiving the applications, the concerned authorities will scrutinize the candidates, while the selection of eligible applicants will be done through computerized balloting so that the process remains completely transparent and merit-based.

What documents will be required?

The application must be accompanied by a National Identity Card or B Form, a bonafide certificate of the educational institution, Punjab domicile, driving license or learner permit, passport-sized photographs and required family information or affidavit.

The Punjab government has also launched a helpline 042-111-333-267 to guide students, where application procedures, eligibility and other information can be obtained.
