Murree Weather Forecast: PMD predicts heavy snowfall from Feb 29

In Murree, Galliyat, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted significant snowfall from February 29 to March 3.

The Met Office warned in a statement that “heavy snowfall and torrential rain, expected in most parts of the country from February 29 to March 2, might generate flash floods and disrupt daily life in the vulnerable areas.” The PMD urged visitors to avoid making unnecessary travel plans, citing the possibility of landslides in upper KP, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan due to the intense rain and snowfall.

The Met Office predicted that on February 29 a powerful westerly wave would likely approach the western portions of the country. It may then grab much of the country on March 1 and last until March 2. In much of the country, severe rain, a lot of snow, windstorms, thunderstorms, and a few scattered hailstorms were predicted during that time.

Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Bajaur, Karak, and Khyber are likely to have heavy to extremely heavy widespread rain, windstorms, thunderstorms, and heavy snowfall over the hills between February 29 and March 3.

There’s also a chance of heavy rain and snowfall in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan during that time.

In Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar, Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur, from February 29 to March 3, heavy to extremely heavy rain, windstorm, thunderstorm, and snowfall are predicted. An isolated hailstorm is also likely during that time. It is also anticipated that Balochistan will have thunderstorms, windstorms, and heavy rain (snowfall over the hills.

Widespread heavy rain, a windstorm, and a thunderstorm are predicted for Punjab and Islamabad on March 1 and 2. These areas include Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, and Bhakkar.

In Sindh, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, and Shaheed Benazirabad are predicted to see rain, wind, and thunderstorms. On February 29 and March 1, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Khairpur, and Mirpurkhas. There’s also a chance of an isolated hailstorm at this time.

According to the Met Office, flash flooding could occur on February 29 and March 1 in the local nullahs of Gwadar, Ketch, Turbat, Panjgur, Awaran, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Dalbandin, Khuzdar, and Dera Ghazi Khan due to heavy rainfall.

It’s expected to rain, wind, and thunderstorms in Sindh, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, and Shaheed Benazirabad towns. Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Khairpur, and Mirpurkhas on February 29 and March 1. At this time, there’s also a probability of an isolated hailstorm.

The Met Office reports that heavy rains on February 29 and March 1 could cause flash flooding in the nearby nullahs of Gwadar, Ketch, Turbat, Panjgur, Awaran, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Dalbandin, Khuzdar, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
