ISLAMABAD: People involved in crimes will no longer be able to drive online rides. A new security system has come for online taxi services. Punjab Police has made police character certificate mandatory for online taxi drivers.

DIG Faisal Kamran has said that an agreement has been reached between Lahore Police and online taxi companies, according to which now no online taxi company will allow anyone with a history of involvement in crimes to drive a taxi through its application.

Under the agreement with Punjab Police, now ride-hailing companies will require police character certificate from candidates who want to become online taxi drivers through their applications. A new security system has been introduced for online taxi services in Lahore.

DIG Faisal Kamran said that an important agreement has been reached between Lahore Police and online taxi companies. Police verification has been made mandatory for every driver before new recruitment. The complete data of all online taxi drivers has now been linked with the police.

Online ride-hailing companies have been instructed to fully implement the new security policy. The police have taken this necessary step after incidents of crimes against citizens ordering rides through the application came to light and the ride-hailing companies have also adopted an attitude of full cooperation with the police for the protection of citizens.
