ISLAMABAD: The leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former finance minister declared on Wednesday that he would not be participating in the general elections that are set for February 8, 2024. When a bench made up of Justices Mansoor Ali Shah and Jamal Mandokhel considered an appeal filed by Azhar against the rejection of his nomination papers, he informed the Supreme Court of his decision through his attorney.

His attorney informed the bench during the hearing that the former minister had decided not to press his appeal. Justice Mansoor questioned why the high court had cited Article 62 (1) f in its ruling at one point. He noted that Article 62 (1) f did not apply on its own, as the supreme court had made clear.

Justice Mansoor went on to say that because the PTI leader withdrew his suit, he would not be able to benefit from the verdict of the supreme court. Subsequently, the attorney representing Hammad Azhar revealed that his client, who had filed candidacy papers from NA-129, had declared his intention to not run in the general elections.
