Senators express outrage over hike of security fee of electricity meters

Senator Kamil Ali Agha asked concerned authorities for an explanation regarding the increase in the security fee of electricity meters from Rs.1100 to Rs.22000.

During the Senate session presided over by Deputy Chairman Mirza Muhammad Afridi, he called the increase to Rs22000 extremely cruel.

Agha demanded an explanation from the authorities concerned as to whose permission they had increased the fee, saying that it was the meter that the consumer had purchased himself.

According to the details, it was decided to increase the security fee of electricity connection for commercial and industrial users from 1220 to 18000.

Sources said that customers taking less than 10 kW load will have to pay Rs 20,000 per kilowatt, for single phase meter connection, customers will have to pay up to Rs 24,000.

As per detail, the Ministry of Power Division has decided to increase security as per 3 months’ bills, after the hearing in Nepra, demand notices will be issued by increasing the security fee.

Senator Sadia in a senate session raised the issue of lack of passports, he said. It was the first time there was a shortage of passports in the country. “It is like deliberately insulting people,” he said.

Addressing the upper house meeting, Senator Kamran Murtaza said that the situation in Balochistan has worsened due to rains while the top officers are involved in manipulation. He said that “neither the provincial nor the federal government is paying attention to Balochistan. Should the problems of the people be solved? Attention should be paid to Balochistan.

Senator Tahir Bizenjo said that there was heavy rain in Balochistan due to which Gwadar was completely submerged. Bizenjo said that like the Election Commission, PDMA and NDMA are also in a bad situation, accusing them of stealing the money coming for the relief of the people.
