LAHORE: On Thursday, police in Lahore detained Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, the senior vice president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Sher Afzal was taken into custody from the GPO Chowk area, outside the Lahore High Court.

He has been relocated to the Mazang police station, according to the police.

The police have also claimed that they detained the PTI leader in accordance with 3MPO.

Afzal Marwat was previously taken into custody from Chakdara, which is located in the Lower Dir District of KP.

The vocal lawmaker was previously charged for using social media to incite protests against government institutions.

Marwat said that about 300 heavily armed police officers were involved in the incident, which he claimed was an attempt by the police to “abduct” him as he was entering Gulabad.

But the police later freed them and told the workers to leave Bajaur after the protests from the workers there.

In two earlier cases, Marwat had obtained protective bail from the Islamabad High Court (IHC). He was the subject of a case in October in K-P for allegedly inciting public disapproval of state institutions via social media.

In August, more than ninety PTI workers were taken into custody in various K-P districts for organizing protests against the imprisonment of Imran Khan, the party’s founder chairman.
