KARACHI: The Sindh government has agreed to reduce the heavy challans imposed on motorcyclists in Karachi.
A meeting of the Sindh Assembly Special Committee on E-Challan was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Provincial Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar.
In the meeting, the Sindh government has agreed to reduce the challans for motorcycles on the demand of Opposition Leader Ali Khorshidi.
Sources say that the fines for vehicles up to 1000 cc will be reduced.
On this issue, Opposition Leader Sindh Assembly Ali Khorshidi said that only increasing fines is not a solution to traffic problems. Along with fines, active traffic signals and clear lane markings are also necessary.
There is neither lane marking nor signals working properly on most of the roads in Karachi. He demanded that the heavy challans for motorcyclists be reduced. Disproportionate fines on the poor and middle class are unfair.
He further said that heavy fines are unacceptable without improving infrastructure. Transparency and reforms are necessary in the implementation of traffic laws.
We have not put up banners in the city but have done practical work on it. We are not against e-challans but are working to reduce their heavy fines.
