ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has increased toll tax on motorways, national highways and expressways across the country.
According to a notification issued by the NHA, the new rates are effective from today and will also be applicable to cars, wagons, minibuses, buses, two and three axle trucks, including articulated trucks.
According to the notification, toll tax has been increased on various important routes including M1, M3, M4, M5, M14, E-35 Hazara Expressway, Kohat Tunnel and Islamabad-Muri Dual Carriageway.
According to the NHA, the toll tax on national highways has been fixed at Rs 100 for cars, Rs 200 for wagons and Rs 300 for buses.
On the M-3 Motorway from Lahore to Abdul Hakeem, the toll tax for cars has been fixed at Rs 1,000, for wagons at Rs 1,500, for minibuses at Rs 2,200, and for buses at Rs 3,150.
Similarly, on the M-4 Motorway from Pindi Bhattian to Multan, the toll tax for cars has been reduced to Rs 1,350, for wagons at Rs 1,950, for minibuses at Rs 2,900, and for buses at Rs 4,050.
On the M-5 Motorway from Multan to Sukkur, the new toll for cars has been fixed at Rs 1,500, for wagons at Rs 2,200, for minibuses at Rs 3,250, and for buses at Rs 4,600.
According to the National Highway Authority, the revised rates have been implemented immediately at all relevant toll plazas and passengers are being charged according to the new schedule.
The new increase is likely to further increase the expenses of citizens, transporters and freight vehicles traveling on motorways and national highways.
According to people associated with the transport sector, the increase in toll tax may also have an impact on fares and the cost of delivering essential goods.
