LAHORE: Lahore’s 380-year-old historic Wazir Khan Mosque has once again made headlines after model Azbiah Khan and a photographer were booked for a photoshoot inside the mosque, sparking widespread outrage on social media.
Akbari Gate police have registered a case against female model Azbiah Khan and photographer Zain Shah for allegedly recording a video inside the mosque’s courtyard.
The FIR, filed by Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) official Muhammad Owais under Section 295, has accused the two men of violating the sanctity of a 17th-century mosque, located in the heart of the city. The clip, which allegedly shows the model in revealing clothing, went viral online, sparking outrage among social media users and authorities.
The clip was filmed four days ago without permission from the authorities concerned. The Walled City authorities claim that the video has insulted the sanctity of the religious place.
This is not the first time that the Wazir Khan Mosque has been hit by a storm. A few years ago, top stars Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed had got into trouble for shooting a music video inside the mosque, which sparked a nationwide debate.
Later, the Department of Endowments and Religious Affairs imposed a strict ban on filming inside mosques and shrines, but the controversies continue.
