LAHORE: Following Ducky Bhai, on Wednesday, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) registered a case against renowned YouTuber Rajab Butt for supposedly propagating gambling and betting apps and inciting the public to invest in them.
Rajab Butt, according to the FIR, is also accused of operating social media applications, such as YouTube, by posting videos and ads enticing individuals into gambling apps.
The officials stated his promotions were deceptive, causing many people to lose their hard-earned money to fake gambling plans.
The researchers made a revelation that Butt was also an ambassador of a popular betting app, further making these sites legitimate in his viewers’ eyes.
NCCIA added that even after sending him several notices for questioning, the YouTuber kept defaulting and failing to report before investigators, which led to the filing of a formal case against him.
The officials pointed out that the case forms part of a larger crackdown on networks of online gambling that use digital platforms to target Pakistani users. In a connected move, the agency has also filed cases against two more YouTubers named Ins Ali and Hrira for promoting the same betting apps.
The cybercrime authorities cautioned that gambling app promotions are against Pakistani law and entail serious penalties. They appealed to social media influencers and bloggers to behave responsibly and not mislead people with illegal promotions.
The NCCIA reiterated its dedication to protecting citizens from online fraud and announced that it will continue to monitor digital platforms in order to restrict gambling and betting schemes.
