ISLAMABAD (ABN News): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf central leader Sheikh Waqas Akram has spoken out against the culture of favoritism and exclusion in politics, stating that some close associates of the party founder have formed factions that harm both the party and the political landscape. He emphasized that such behavior is detrimental to healthy political development.
Addressing relations with Afghanistan, Sheikh Waqas Akram condemned recent irresponsible remarks by government ministers labeling Afghanistan as an enemy. He highlighted that Pakistan is already hosting three million refugees who place a significant burden on the economy. According to him, damaging ties with neighboring countries ultimately harms Pakistan’s own interests.
On relations with India, he acknowledged India as a traditional adversary but stressed the importance of maintaining trade relations. “If we can engage with a country like India, why not with Afghanistan?” he questioned during his appearance on ABN News’ program Sawal Se Aagay.
He also touched upon defense talks with Saudi Arabia, noting that discussions on a defense agreement began during his government’s tenure. Sheikh Waqas Akram underscored the need for balanced foreign relations as key to Pakistan’s prosperity.
Regarding ongoing legal cases, he claimed that many have already been concluded but authorities are still attempting to impose punishments. He accused the system of selective justice and said that his personal belongings, including food items, have been confiscated—actions he called violations of human rights.
Sheikh Waqas Akram’s remarks call for greater political unity and responsible diplomacy to safeguard Pakistan’s national interests.
