KARACHI: Pakistani rapper Talha Anjum has drawn a wave of criticism since he hoisted the Indian flag during a concert in Nepal.
The act has drawn heated online reactions, as many netizens attacked him for having compromised his national identity in the name of popularity.
The controversy started after a video surfaced on X, where Talha Anjum was seen waving the Indian flag in his performance.
Anjum, whose songs have been blocked on Spotify and YouTube in India, came under criticism for showing solidarity with the neighboring country. His actions brought up questions of loyalty and the motivations behind them.
However, Talha also shared his response on the Social media platform X, saying that “My heart has no place for hate. My art has no borders. If me raising an Indian flag sparks controversy so be it. I’ll do it again.. will never care about the media, the war mongering governments and their propagandas. Urdu Rap is and will always be borderless.. ”
Reactions were widely mixed; some commended his bravery and said that waving the flag did not make him anti-Pakistan, while others accused him of being “attention-seeking” or said that public opinion counts even if art has no limits.
His unwavering message of harmony and peace was emphasized by his supporters, many of whom praised his determination to let the political tensions between India and Pakistan frighten him.
