President Zardari and PM Shehbaz Congratulate BNP on Historic Bangladesh Election Win

The Bangladesh Election BNP Victory has drawn international attention after early results showed the Bangladesh Nationalist Party securing a strong lead in the country’s parliamentary polls. The election, held after the turbulent 2024 uprising, signals a possible shift in political leadership as BNP leader Tarique Rahman appears set to become the next prime minister.

Preliminary projections suggest the BNP won 151 out of 300 parliamentary seats, enough for a simple majority. Some broadcasters even predicted a larger margin. However, officials had not released final certified results at the time of reporting. Still, the outcome points to a major political comeback for the party following years out of power.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami, the largest Islamist party that led a broader coalition, secured dozens of seats but questioned the credibility of the counting process. Party leaders said they observed inconsistencies in unofficial announcements, although detailed evidence has not yet been presented.

The Bangladesh Election BNP Victory quickly prompted congratulatory messages from several countries. Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the result as decisive and extended their best wishes to Tarique Rahman. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties based on mutual respect.

In addition, the United States praised the development as a historic moment, while India acknowledged Rahman’s clear win despite recent tensions with Dhaka. China also joined other nations in welcoming the outcome, reflecting broad global interest in Bangladesh’s political direction.

According to the Election Commission, voter turnout reached about 59 percent. Security forces were deployed across the country to prevent violence. Although campaign clashes left several people dead and hundreds injured, polling day itself remained largely peaceful with only minor disruptions reported.

Senior BNP leaders urged supporters to avoid street celebrations and instead offer prayers. They emphasized unity and called on citizens to focus on rebuilding the nation after years of political strain.

Interim leader Muhammad Yunus encouraged calm as the country transitions toward a new government. He said that despite political differences, national unity must remain the priority. Yunus has overseen Bangladesh since the removal of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in 2024, and his administration introduced reform proposals aimed at preventing one-party dominance.

Voters also participated in a referendum on governance reforms, with television projections indicating strong public backing. As Bangladesh awaits official confirmation of results, the election is widely seen as a defining moment that could reshape the nation’s democratic future.
