Iran claims downing of US planes has increased tensions in the region, as both sides exchange strong statements and military actions. The claims emerged on Sunday, with Iran saying it shot down multiple US aircraft amid ongoing conflict.
According to Iranian state media, the country has downed two C-130 aircraft and two Black Hawk helicopters belonging to the United States. Television channels also aired footage of wreckage, which they said was from one of the destroyed planes.
The development came shortly after US President Donald Trump stated that an American officer, who went missing after his F-15E fighter jet was downed in Iran, had been rescued. He confirmed that the officer is now safe.
At the same time, Trump issued a strong warning to Tehran. He said severe consequences could follow if Iran does not agree to a peace deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Monday.
Iran rejected the warning, calling it an “unrealistic” and “pressured” demand. Officials in Tehran said they would not accept such conditions under threats.
Meanwhile, regional tensions continued to rise after a reported drone attack targeted a major fuel facility in Bahrain. The strike caused a fire in one of the storage tanks at the site.
Iran also claimed that recent US and Israeli attacks have caused casualties in the Mahshahr Petrochemical Zone. Authorities said at least five people were killed and around 170 injured.
In addition, Iranian officials reported that more than 30 universities have been affected since the conflict began. However, independent verification of these claims remains limited.
The situation remains highly tense, with both sides continuing to exchange warnings and military actions. Observers fear further escalation if diplomatic efforts fail.
