Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has described the recent attack as an Islamabad blast agencies failure, strongly criticizing the country’s security framework and intelligence performance.
In a statement issued after the incident, Fazlur Rehman condemned the explosion and called it both tragic and unacceptable. He said the attackers were “enemies of humanity” who deserved no leniency. Moreover, he expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
The senior political leader warned that militant activity appears to be spreading. He noted that after repeated incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the federal capital is now facing similar threats. Consequently, he argued that no region of the country can currently be considered fully safe from terrorism.
Fazlur Rehman questioned the confidence some institutions show in their performance despite what he described as worsening conditions. According to him, the situation raises serious concerns about preparedness and response mechanisms. He stressed that relying solely on official visits and condemnation statements after tragedies cannot reassure the public.
Furthermore, the JUI-F chief pointed to the role of sectarian violence and alleged involvement of both national and international elements. He said their criminal mindset should not be ignored, as doing so risks further instability.
Reiterating his criticism, he again labeled the attack an Islamabad blast agencies failure, asking why such violence could occur in broad daylight despite the presence of multiple intelligence bodies. He urged state institutions to operate without political interference so they can focus on maintaining law and order and protecting citizens’ lives and property.
Fazlur Rehman also questioned when authorities would address public frustration and provide a sense of security for future generations. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive system that prioritizes safety and restores trust.
The blast has renewed debate over Pakistan’s counterterrorism strategy, particularly in major urban centers. Security analysts often stress that coordinated intelligence, rapid response, and preventive measures remain critical to limiting threats.
Meanwhile, Fazlur Rehman concluded his remarks by standing in solidarity with the affected families, saying the nation must unite in confronting violence while demanding stronger safeguards from those responsible for public protection.
