Mari Energy Limited has announced a new Dera Bugti gas discovery in Balochistan, marking a positive development for Pakistan’s domestic energy sector. The discovery was made in the Khelchas South Block of Dera Bugti district, according to an official statement released by the company on Tuesday. The find is expected to contribute to efforts aimed at improving local gas supply and reducing reliance on imports.

Gas Discovery Details

The company stated that gas was discovered at the Tabri-1 exploratory well, which was drilled to a depth of approximately 7,170 feet. Initial testing results showed a daily gas flow ranging between 6.5 and 11 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), indicating commercially viable potential.

Mari Energy confirmed that further technical evaluation and appraisal activities would be carried out to determine the full scale and sustainability of the reservoir. Officials said the results so far are encouraging and align with the company’s ongoing exploration strategy in Balochistan.

Significance for Energy Sector

Energy experts say the Dera Bugti gas discovery could help strengthen Pakistan’s indigenous energy resources at a time when the country is facing persistent gas shortages. Balochistan has long been considered a resource-rich province, and new discoveries are viewed as important for regional development and national energy security.

While commercial production timelines have not yet been announced, the discovery is expected to support long-term supply planning if confirmed through additional testing. Government and industry stakeholders have consistently emphasized the need to accelerate domestic exploration to stabilize energy availability.

Mari Energy Limited is one of Pakistan’s leading exploration and production companies and continues to play a key role in developing local hydrocarbon resources.
