The Maryam Nawaz mobile ban has been enforced in Punjab government hospitals to improve patient care and discipline. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the decision while addressing senior hospital officials in Lahore. She said doctors, nurses, and staff must avoid using mobile phones during duty hours.
She stressed that patients visiting public hospitals are often poor and depend fully on government services. Therefore, she said, even small negligence can put lives at risk. She made it clear that medical staff must focus only on their responsibilities during working hours.
Moreover, she directed Medical Superintendents and Chief Executive Officers to monitor hospitals personally. She told them not to rely only on office reports. Instead, they must visit wards and check facilities themselves. This step, she said, will help prevent shortages, corruption, and poor management.
Maryam Nawaz also warned that strict action will follow if complaints of negligence or bribery are confirmed. She said funds provided for medicines are meant for poor patients and must not be misused. According to her, the real issue in hospitals is not funding but lack of accountability and proper supervision.
In addition, the government has ensured the availability of medicines in hospitals. She said no patient should be denied treatment or forced to pay illegal charges. She added that every patient deserves equal care and respect.
The Maryam Nawaz mobile ban also applies to nurses and other hospital staff. She said this policy will not disrupt hospital operations. Instead, it will help staff remain attentive and improve service quality.
Meanwhile, she announced Rs3 billion for children’s heart surgeries in Punjab. She said more than 10,000 surgeries are planned, and special cardiac kits are ready. She described this initiative as an important step in improving healthcare.
Furthermore, she shared that 1,500 doctors and up to 6,000 nurses have been recruited. She also directed hospitals to ensure one patient per bed. She said overcrowding affects treatment quality and must be avoided.
In conclusion, Maryam Nawaz urged healthcare workers to make saving lives their top mission. She said strong monitoring and honest service are key to restoring trust in public hospitals.
