The government has launched an occupational safety training program for nearly 4,000 high-risk workers. The initiative, under the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, aims to improve health and safety standards in key industries.
Titled “Capacity Building of Workers/Employees Regarding Occupational Safety and Health,” the project is worth Rs. 39.76 million. It will run for two years, from July 2026 to June 2028.
The program will train 3,920 workers directly and develop six master trainers to ensure continuous knowledge transfer. Key sectors include construction, health services, food and beverage, oil and gas, metal production, and brick kilns. These sectors are prioritized due to high risk and their contribution to exports.
The project addresses workplace accidents, limited safety awareness, and institutional gaps. Through structured training, awareness campaigns, and strengthening institutions, the government aims to foster a preventive safety culture.
Experts say improved safety can reduce medical and insurance costs, increase productivity, and lower accident-related downtime. Socially, safer workplaces benefit workers and their families. Environmentally, fewer industrial accidents will enhance compliance with regulations.
