Petroleum prices relief became a key focus after Asif Ali Zardari directed the government to reduce the burden of fuel costs on citizens. He stressed that petroleum prices relief must remain a top priority in economic decisions.

The president held a meeting at Bhutto House in Naudero with Mohsin Naqvi, Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Ali Pervaiz Malik. The ministers briefed him on the economic situation, energy sector updates, and steps taken after recent fuel price increases.

During the meeting, petroleum prices relief remained central. The president instructed officials to design policies that give maximum relief to the public, especially in the current regional situation.

Officials also reviewed law and order, the overall economic outlook, and the impact of fuel price changes. The interior minister shared details about ongoing counter-terrorism operations and border security matters. Regional tensions, including issues related to Pakistan and Afghanistan, were also discussed.

The meeting was attended by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Murad Ali Shah, and other officials.

Separately, Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the country’s food stock situation in a meeting with Rana Tanveer Hussain. The focus was on ensuring the availability of essential items across the country.

The minister assured that food reserves are sufficient and informed the prime minister about progress in exporting food items to Gulf countries.

Recently, fuel prices saw a sharp increase of Rs55 per litre due to global market pressures. The rise was linked to supply disruptions caused by tensions involving United States, Israel, and Iran, pushing oil prices to a two-year high.

However, the government later decided not to increase petroleum prices further despite continued pressure in international markets. Officials say petroleum prices relief remains under consideration to support the public.
