PSL 11 matches without spectators will be held only in Karachi and Lahore, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
The decision was announced by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi during a press conference in Lahore. He confirmed that PSL 11 matches without spectators will begin on March 26 as per schedule.
He said the opening ceremony of the tournament has also been cancelled. The step has been taken as part of cost-cutting measures and current regional conditions.
Mohsin Naqvi apologized to cricket fans. He said tickets already purchased will be refunded. Fans will not be allowed inside stadiums until the situation improves.
He explained that the government had already announced austerity measures. Because of this, PSL 11 matches without spectators will take place in only two cities to reduce expenses and travel.
The PCB chairman added that a new schedule will be released soon. It will focus on minimizing player movement between cities.
Despite the changes, the tournament will go ahead as planned. PCB will pay gate money to franchises to cover losses.
International players are expected to start arriving within the next couple of days. Mohsin Naqvi said if the situation improves, crowds may be allowed later.
