The PTI PML-N terrorism narrative clash deepened on Saturday after leaders from both parties exchanged strong criticism following a press conference by the federal information minister in Islamabad.
The dispute began when Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar addressed the media. Soon after, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram rejected the government’s position and accused it of twisting facts for political advantage. As a result, tensions between the ruling coalition and the opposition quickly escalated.
Akram described the minister’s media briefing as misleading and claimed it failed to present the truth to the public. He argued that the information ministry should focus on accurate communication rather than political messaging. Moreover, he said repeating incorrect claims cannot change reality or alter past events.
Referring to PTI’s time in power, Akram stated that the country experienced improved security conditions during that period. According to him, militant violence had declined significantly, and major threats appeared under control. He also alleged that the current leadership bears responsibility for the recent rise in insecurity due to poor decisions and ineffective policies.
In addition, the PTI spokesperson accused the ruling alliance of weakening democratic institutions and prioritizing political survival. He claimed the government continues to promote what he called an unfounded narrative to maintain authority.
However, the government side responded firmly. Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari criticized what she described as attempts to gain political mileage from acts of terrorism. She urged political figures to avoid exploiting national tragedies for partisan benefit.
Bokhari stressed that combating terrorism requires unity and seriousness. She reminded the public that Pakistan had overcome similar threats before and expressed confidence that the country could do so again. Furthermore, she called on political actors to keep divisive rhetoric away from public life and moments of collective grief.
The PTI PML-N terrorism narrative clash reflects broader political polarization in Pakistan, where security issues often become part of heated debate. Analysts note that disagreements over counterterrorism strategies are not new, yet such exchanges highlight the ongoing struggle to shape public perception.
While both parties claim commitment to national security, their contrasting narratives reveal deep mistrust ahead of future political contests. Observers say cooperation remains essential, as terrorism continues to pose challenges for regional stability and internal safety.
For now, the verbal confrontation underscores how security discussions remain closely tied to Pakistan’s shifting political landscape.
