Punjab Children Hospital Construction will begin soon as the provincial government plans a major step to improve healthcare for children. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the project during a ceremony for the CM Children Heart Surgery Program in Punjab.
She confirmed that the new hospital will have 1,000 beds. Moreover, construction will start in March at Nawaz Sharif Medical Hospital. She said the project aims to provide better treatment facilities and reduce waiting times for young patients.
Maryam Nawaz stressed that public money must serve people honestly. Therefore, she promised strict monitoring to prevent corruption and negligence in hospitals. She also said her government is focused on saving children’s lives through timely treatment.
She shared that when she took office, around 15,000 children were waiting for medical procedures. However, the situation has improved. So far, more than 10,400 pediatric open-heart surgeries and related procedures have been completed under the program. In comparison, only 300 procedures were done in its first year.
The chief minister thanked doctors, nurses, and medical teams for their efforts. She said their dedication made it possible to expand free treatment programs across Punjab. As a result, thousands of families received life-saving care without financial burden.
In addition, she highlighted progress in transplant services. For the first time in the province, 800 kidney transplants and 200 bone marrow transplants were performed using a transplant card system. This system helped patients access treatment more easily.
She also mentioned new healthcare facilities, including a cath lab in Mianwali. Because of this, heart patients can now receive treatment closer to home instead of traveling far.
Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz announced free medicines worth Rs. 100 billion and free stroke injections for patients. She added that Rs. 3 billion has been allocated for cancer treatment, including advanced procedures.
She said Punjab Children Hospital Construction reflects the government’s commitment to improving public healthcare. According to her, these steps aim to ensure no child loses life due to lack of medical care.
