Punjab free public transport has been officially announced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for all major cities across the province. The decision was revealed on Friday as part of relief measures for citizens facing rising economic pressure.
Under this initiative, passengers will not need to buy tickets for several major transport services. These include the Orange Line train, Metro Bus, Green electric buses, and Speedo bus services operating in different cities of Punjab.
The move aims to reduce daily travel costs for the public. It also encourages citizens to use public transport instead of private vehicles during challenging times.
Alongside this, the Chief Minister also announced support for farmers. A subsidy of Rs100 per litre of diesel will be provided to growers on a per-acre basis. This step is expected to ease the financial burden on the agricultural sector.
Maryam Nawaz stated that the government will not leave people alone in difficult circumstances. She urged citizens to prefer public transport, especially in the current situation.
She further explained that global conditions, including the impact of war, have contributed to an economic crisis worldwide. The government plans to provide more relief once conditions improve.
The announcement is being seen as a major step to support both urban commuters and farmers across Punjab.
