QUETTA: At least 1 person has died and ten have been injured in an attack on a Pakistan Peoples Party rally on Munir Mengal Chowk near Sariab Road on Wednesday, according to police.
The convoy came under attack when an unidentified man started firing and hurled hand grenades on the rally, as per the initial details.
The Injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital Quetta, the hospital administration stated. The condition of three of the injured is reported to be critical. The critically injured individuals are shifted to the trauma Centre for treatment.
The provincial Minister Ali Madad Jattak was leading the rally at the time of the attack; however, fortunately, he remained safe in the attack, according to police officials.
The car of minister was slightly damaged due to the firing on site. Additional police forces have arrived at the attack site for further investigation.
The Balochistan government has strongly condemned the recent attack on the rally led by senior politician Ali Madad Jattak, terming the incident a cowardly act and a direct assault on democratic institutions.
Spokesperson of Balochistan government Shahid Rind, in a statement on Wednesday, expressed grave concern over the incident and confirmed that a detailed report has been sought from the concerned authorities.
“This attack is not only an act of cowardice but also a strike against the foundations of our democratic system,” Rind said.
