KOHAT: An unfortunate incident was reported where 11 members of a family drowned after rainwater gushed into their house’s basement located in the Darra Adamkhel area in Kohat district Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the rescue 1122 officials, the family was trapped in the flooded basement while sleeping. The victims included six children, three women, and two men, all from the same family. The bodies have been transferred to a local hospital for medico-legal procedures.

Additionally, a five-year-old girl was rescued from the basement.

Heavy rainfall has ended a prolonged drought in Khyber District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The continuous rains resulted in relatively pleasant weather after a long heat wave.

Previously, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that Punjab rivers and streams flow normally in the ongoing monsoon season. The water levels in the Mangla and Tarbela Dams are at 58% and 69%, respectively, while Indian dams on the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers have levels up to 39%.

The monsoon rains are expected to continue until July 31, with the PDMA forecasting additional rainfall in most districts of Punjab over the next 24 hours.
